When Bojana (Bo) Krienke lines up at this spring’s Mother’s Day Bridge City Duathlon, she won’t just be racing for herself — she’ll be running and biking to inspire other moms to get out there, have fun, and feel celebrated. “The idea of running and biking on Mother’s Day just felt so special,” Krienke says. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate ourselves while doing something that’s both challenging and rewarding.”
“It’s easy to put yourself last when you’re a mom,” says Krienke, who has two daughters. “But I’ve learned that taking care of myself — physically, mentally, and emotionally — is not just good for me, it’s good for my daughters too. When I show up for myself, I’m showing them that it’s okay to be strong, to take on challenges, and to keep pushing forward no matter the obstacles.”
Krienke’s daughters, ages 15 and 18, have been her biggest supporters, and they inspire her every day. “I want them to grow up knowing that women are powerful, that we can do anything we set our minds to. It’s important for them to see me not only as a mom, but as a woman who loves to challenge herself, who values her health, and who finds joy in pushing her own limits.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the event:
When: Saturday, May 10
Where: Race Central at Meewasin Park warmup hut and parking lot
Distances: Super Sprint (2.5 km run, 10 km bike, 1.25 km run) and Sprint (5 km run, 20 km bike, 2.5 km run)
Why: The event, hosted by the Saskatoon Triathlon Club, is a great way to celebrate motherhood, honour your mom or simply enjoy a spring race to kick off your outdoor season. Whether you’re marking the day in a special way or just looking for a fun challenge, all are welcome. The race is open to participants of all skill levels.
In addition to the race itself, several surprises are sure to make this day unforgettable, including swag bags with meaningful gifts (featuring a potted flower courtesy of Crossmount Cider Company); a soup voucher from dLish by Tish to refuel after the race; a sign and card-making station for little ones and supporters; and a photographer dedicated to capturing family, mom-and-me, and medal portraits.
“I know the (Saskatoon Triathlon) Club has planned some wonderful celebratory activities to honour moms after the race,” Krienke says. “It’s going to be so special for moms and their families to be there together.”
Krienke wants all moms to know it’s never too late to challenge themselves and embrace the joy of fitness. “Just by showing up, you’re doing something amazing. You’re setting an example for your kids, and you’re giving yourself the opportunity to feel proud of what you’ve accomplished.”
