A buffet of choice

Saskatoon is one of Canada’s great running cities. We are so fortunate to have the Meewasin Trail system and a vibrant running community.

One of the signs of this being true is the buffet of choices when it comes to finding a running or walking event that speaks to you! We have a complete listing of upcoming runs/walks in our weekly newsletter, but today we are going to highlight four diverse events that are upcoming in Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan Marathon – May 31: “(We) offer a scenic, Boston‑qualifying course through Saskatoon’s Meewasin Valley, a welcoming community atmosphere and race options for runners and walkers of all abilities,” said race director Kim Ali.

Pricing (before tax/fees)/Swag: all participants receive a tech race shirt and medal. 5K $60; 10K $80; 21.1K $115; 42.2K $125

Key to remember: The price for the marathon is extremely reasonable. I just completed my 34th marathon last weekend and it’s now common to pay double that price in markets outside Saskatchewan… The race shirt features “the iconic Western Red Lily – our provincial flower and a protected symbol of Saskatchewan’s natural beauty,” continued Ali… MaraFun – presented by SIGA – is also part of the festivities. “(It) is a joyful, high-energy celebration and training program that introduces thousands of youth to running in a supportive, inclusive environment filled with music, entertainment, and community spirit,” said organizer Jeff Culbert.

Step Up for Mental Health – presented by Cameco – September 26-27: Saskatchewan’s largest running/walking event (7,500+ people) offers an incredible vibe at the starting line and inclusive atmosphere – with all proceeds to mental health programs throughout the province.

Pricing/Swag: Registration will open May 8th with everyone receiving a bunnyhug and medal. 5K $59.50; 10K $59.50; 21.1K $79

Key to remember: This event has sold-out seven consecutive years. Capacity this year will be over 8,000 participants.

Rainbow Run – presented by Co-op – June 27: “(It) is a vibrant, inclusive celebration of pride and community — bringing runners, walkers, families, and first-timers together for a joyful, high-energy experience where everyone belongs,” explained Culbert.

Pricing/Swag: T-shirt and medal for everyone. 5K $40; 10K $50

Key to remember: The Gather Local Market is a wonderful venue for the start line… there are drag queen performances at the finish line!

Whiteswan Mile – July 12: The Saskatoon Road Runners presents this one-mile race that is also the Saskatchewan Athletics Road Mile Championship.

Pricing/Swag: $35 (SRRA members receive $10 discount)

Key to remember: There are cash and non-cash prizes!…The event features a new course that is flat and fast this summer.
